Hiking: tour of Mont Mourex

4 rue des Bains , 01220 Divonne-les-Bains

This 2h30 to 3h walk is an invitation to stroll around Divonne, on the Mont-Mourex, covered in abundant vegetation and steeped in history.

Departure point: Divonne les bains, in front of the tourist office or the town hall (or Mont Mussy).
By road: from Gex (access to Mont Mussy is via a small road on the right before entering Divonne)
By bus: TER line Bellegarde-Divonne

Signposting: PR-Yellow
From the tourist office, head in the direction of the town hall, then follow the signs for Mont-Mourex and the yellow markings.
After passing by the golf course, cross the Route de Gex before a pleasant climb along the sentier des Dames. After a little effort, you arrive at the Mont-Mussy farm.
Enter the woods again, populated by chestnut trees, relics of a plantation decimated by frost in 1956.
A shady alley leads you to the "rendez-vous des chasseurs", then the path deepens and leads to the treeless Mont-Mourex, offering a splendid panorama of Lake Geneva, the Alps, the Pays de Gex and the high Jura chain.
At an altitude of 754 m, Mont Mourex is said to have been a place of worship dedicated to the sun.
A stone circle 145 m in circumference and 47 m in diameter seems to bear this out.
Continue your walk towards Mourex, a charming village which you cross on the left in the direction of Grilly.
A wide path leads to Crépillon, the crossroads of Vie d'Arbère and Tir Mir, then Les Crottes, before arriving at the foot of the sentier des Dames.
At the edge of the forest, a path leads directly to Divonne via Arbère and the old railway station.
