When the cello becomes memory and light
Thanks to the presence of the excellent cellist Xavier Phillips, a great artist and faithful friend of this Festival, who will be performing a suite for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach as part of his rich program, this September 4 concert will be an opportunity to pay tribute to the legendary cellist Pablo Casals, whose 150th birthday we are celebrating.
An exceptional musician and great humanist, Casals was the man who revived J.S. Bach's long-forgotten six Suites for solo cello, and who, after fleeing Franco's Spain in 1936, founded the prestigious Prades Festival in 1950 to mark the bicentenary of Bach's death, where he surrounded himself with the greatest performers.
Xavier Phillips, for whom music is passion and truth, will take us in the wake of these artists, thanks to the deep, warm sound of his instrument.
Recital by Xavier Phillips, cello
J.S. Bach (tribute to Casals: 150th anniversary of his birth) Full price: 25 €.
