A book, a debate: "Le chemin des morts", by François Sureau (France)

Published in 2013, this short novel is an introspective account of an administrative tragedy: the rejection of an asylum application by a Basque ex-militant threatened in his homeland. Sureau, a magistrate and writer, questions individual responsibility in the face of fate and the ethics of doubt in justice. In this story, he sheds light on the tension between law and conscience in a contemporary text with universal resonance.
