Rudolf Nureyev evening with dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet

Show

Théâtre de l'Esplanade du lac - Divonne-les-Bains

01 February 2026 de 18h00 à 19h20

A dancer of genius, Rudolf Nureyev left his mark on the history of the Paris Opera Ballet.

He led the company from 1983 to 1993, nurturing a whole generation of Étoiles and enriching the repertoire with his reinterpretations of Marius Petipa's choreographies ("Don Quixote", "Swan Lake", "The Nutcracker", "Romeo and Juliet").
Performed by the Opera's young, new wave of dancers, this evening is an opportunity to pay tribute to Petipa and retrace his artistic genius. "You live as long as you dance" "Un pas de deux est un dialogue amoureux", Rudolph Nureyev.
On tour, Nureyev made his first appearance on the Palais Garnier stage on May 15, 1961, during a dress rehearsal of "Sleeping Beauty". He also caused a sensation in "l'Acte des Ombres" from La Bayadère, three days after requesting political asylum from French customs officials at Le Bourget airport on May 16, 1961. The Kirov management had decided to send him back to Moscow without allowing him to continue the Ballet's tour of London. Paris would remain a symbolic city for him.
